February 25, 2012 - Potawatomi Trails District Merit Badge University

On Saturday, February 25, 2012, there will again be a Merit Badge University being put on by the Potawatomi District, (not our District), for their Boy Scouts. Registration fills up VERY fast and is ONLY open to boys in the Potawatomi District from January 28th through February 5th. February 6th through February 17th registration is open to everyone else in the Council.

Saturday March 3, 2012 Troop 31 will be holding it's annual Spaghetti Supper. We will once again be hosting our dinner on the lower level of the Oswego Presbyterian Church from 4pm to 8pm. Tickets are available from your local Troop 31 Boy Scouts and will be available at the door. All proceeds benefit local Scouting. Please click here to download a flyer.

March 9, 2012 - Electronics Campout

Ipods, PSP's, video games... Get permission from your parents and Scout Leaders to bring your favorite electronic gizmos... they won't be taken away on this campout! We will be heading to Camp Sannauk (located in the Sandwich-Somonauk, IL area - Sannauk Forest Preserve) on Friday March 9, 2012 thru Sunday March 11, 2012. Permission slips will be due back by Monday February 27, 2012.

March 9, 2012 - OA Bowl-a-thon

Friday, March 9, 2012 (11:30pm arrival - 12:00am start) - Saturday, March 10, 2012 (6:00am departure) the OA will be hosting it's annual Bowl-a-Thon. This event is open to all OA member and all non-members. The event will be at the Brunswick Zone at the corner of North Avenue and Gary Avenue in Carol Stream, IL. There will be bowling, video games, pizza, and pop.

April 2, 2012 - Court of Awards

Monday, April 2, 2012 we will be hosting our Spring Court of Awards at the Oswego Presbyterian Church in Oswego (1976 Route 25, Oswego, IL 60543), at 7pm. We encourage ALL scouts and ALL parents to attend. All of our scouts are very proud of their accomplishments and this is our way of congratulating them.

April 27, 2012 - U.S. Grant Pilgrimage, Galena, IL

The BlackHawk Area Council will once again be holding it's annual U.S. Grant Pilgrimage this year starting on Friday April 27, 2012 and running thru Sunday April 29, 2012. Permission slips will be available soon.

Troop 31 will be carrying the flag in the Oswego Memorial Day Parade. Please assemble at Old Traughber Jr. High at 9:30am.

June 14, 2012 - Prairie Fest Hot Dog Stand

Help Support the Troop. Sign up to work the Hot Dog Booth over Prairie Fest Weekend. We are looking for each Scout/Adult to volunteer at least 4 hours, sign-up sheets will be available starting with the May 21st Troop meeting. Fest opens Thursday June 14, 2012 and runs thru Sunday June 17, 2012 and the stand will be "open" for approximately 40 hours, not including setup and tear-down.

NOTICE: Each scout should bring 2 (24) can cases (or 4 (12) can cases) of name brand soda pop to a Troop Meeting on either May 21, June 4, or June 11. The Hot Dog Stand opens on June 14th and we need the pop in before that. We are looking for scouts to bring their assigned flavors. Flavors are assigned by patrol. Please purchase the name brand pop. For example - No Dr.Thunder.

Visiting your scout while at camp is available and encouraged. We highly recommend that you come up on Friday afternoon for the weekly Pig Roast (Dinner is served about 5:30pm). Please advise the Scoutmaster and/or the Camp if you plan to visit during the week. Maps are available below.

August 5, 2011 - Pathway to Eagle

The Village of Bolingbrook will be hosting the 2011 Pathways to Eagle XXII Weekend on August 5, 6, 7! The village enjoys supporting all scouting programs for boys and girls, and believes this event offers numerous opportunities for scouts to work towards the rank of Eagle Scout. This event takes place on the grounds of the Town Center in Bolingbrook, Illinois, (near Routes 53 and I-55), the exact location is: 375 West Briarcliff Road, Bolingbrook, IL 60440.

The weekend will be comprised of Boy Scout Merit Badge sessions, displays by Venture Crews, Webelos activity sessions and a Cub Scout carnival. Boy Scouts, of any rank, and Venture Scouts, will be able to work on a variety of Merit Badges. There are expected to be Eagle required and about general interest Merit Badges that will be offered on Saturday, August 6th. The purpose of the Boy Scout Merit Badge sessions is to test the Scout to determine if the requirements are fulfilled. The sessions are not designed to teach. Scouts will have the opportunity to receive full credit for the badge, or partial credit, which can be used later to complete the badge. The scouts must be familiar with the requirements of the badge, which means that they must have read the book and completed the preparation work shown on the Pathways to Eagle Merit Badge requirements, on the website. Due to the shortness of the periods, teaching is not possible. The scouts should be ready for testing. It is suggested that the Scout use a Merit Badge worksheet to complete in writing as many items as they can. Merit Badge worksheets are available on the Rainbow Council web site at: http://www.rcscouts.org/Advancement/workbooks.htm.

August 5, 2011 - Methoree Campout

The Methoree Campout will be at Camp Reynoldswood in Dixon, IL (815-284-6979) This is designed to be a VERY fun campout with hiking, canoeing, fishing, tetherball, basketball, volleyball, archery, mountain boarding and a whole lot of fun! There will be a short program on religious awards and a church service and an opportunity to learn about plan and animals as well. There is no cooking done on this campout and all meals are provided.
Permission slips are due back by Monday July 25, 2011.

Monday, September 12, 2011 at 7pm at Oswego Presbyterian Church we will have our first Troop meeting of the new School Year.

September 16, 2011 - Rockford Speedway Campout

Rockford Speedway Campout will be Friday September 16, 2011 thru Sunday September 18, 2011. This will be a Family Camp Out... Mom, Dad, Brother, & Sister are welcome to attend. Families should plan on providing their own tents as Troop Gear has limited availability. At the Speedway there will be Monster Trucks, Auto Soccer World Championship, Skidcar Flagpole Race, Roll over Contest, Double Dare Gauntlet, Fig 8 Train Race, Terrible T-Bone Crash, Amer Jet truck plus Draco the Dragonator. We will be sitting in the Family section which does not allow Smoking, swearing or drinking. We will be camping at Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park, IL and the cost of the trip is $28 per person (this includes the cost of the Speedway Ticket). Permission Slips are due back no later than Monday September 12, 2011.

September 23, 2011 - Hunting & Fishing Days

Hunting and Fishing Days Campout will be at the Silver Springs State Park in Yorkville from Friday September 23, 2011 thru Sunday September 25, 2011.
Permission Slips are due back by the Troop Meeting on September 12th.

October 14, 2011 - Fall Camporee

The Maramech Hill Fall Camporee will be Friday, October 14 – Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Sandwich Fair Grounds, Sandwich, IL. Theme: Prepared – For Life. Activities include Scout skills such as knots and lashings, and Dutch-oven competition. Scouts from all over will be there this weekend.
Permission Slips are due back by the Troop Meeting on September 26th.

November Troop Meetings

November 11, 2011 - First Class Trail

Friday, November 11 - Sunday, November 13, 2011 we will be doing our First Class Trail Campout at Camp Kishwaukee in Plano, IL. We will be covering a majority of the requirements for Tender Foot, Second Class and First Class. You can print out the Troop 31 First Class Trail here. Camp Kishwaukee is nestled on the Fox River at the southwest corner of Millhurst Rd and Fox River Rd and is being provided to us for the weekend courtesy of Plano Troop 71. December Troop Meetings

December 3, 2011 - Bell Ringing

Troop 31 is scheduled to be Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army at the Jewel on the corner of Douglas Rd and Rt. 30 on Saturday December 3, 2011. Please plan on being available for a few hours on that day and watch for the sign up sheet at an upcoming Troop Meeting.

December 19, 2011 - Cosmic Bowling Night

Troop 31 Bowling Night will be Monday, Decebmer 19, 2011 from 9pm to 11pm. We are scheduled to be at Parkside Lanes in Aurora.
